Therapy for Entertainment Industry Professionals

You’re tired of constantly needing to produce, schmooze, and find the next job.

You’ve survived multiple strikes and now you’re terrified of Artificial Intelligence and how it might take over your job. Maybe you’re an actor, writer, director, producer, crew member, or executive. Everyone outside of the biz thinks your job is glamorous.  Little do they know the unpredictability of income, the countless rejections before the rare “yes.”

In this business, your job is never safe. There’s always the risk of someone younger, someone more innovative, someone with fresher material.  They might break your contract.  They might not renew your contract.  The ratings are bad.  You’re to blame.  The show isn’t renewed.  You’re looking for a job.  Again.  Are you able to keep your health insurance?  It’s exhausting.  You’ve got to schmooze with the same people that you’re in competition with as you don’t know what their next job might be and if it might help you get your next job.

  • …a great job, an enviable job in this business, but you’re always looking over your shoulder, knowing that you might be the next one cut with no warning.  You hate to live like this.  Never really secure.  Running full speed ahead to make sure no one can say you didn’t do your part.  It feels like a marathon but you’re sprinting.  How long can you keep running? This is a young person’s business.

  • …and having to fill in the unemployment gaps to have a steady income.  Maybe you don’t feel like you have any true friends because they’re in it too and it feels too competitive or consumed with business talk.

You feel hopeful just to get that meeting, to get that audition, to make that pitch.  It was a lot just to get to that point.  Only to hear nothing.  To be crushed, again. How many times can you keep picking yourself up off the floor?  How many times can your creative, tender, empathetic heart be broken before it shuts down entirely?

You love this business.  You hate this business.  You can’t imagine life without the buzz of the biz, yet you feel like you’ve given it your all and you ain’t got nothing left.  When your heart is broken from the constant rejection, it’s tough to be creative and find that spark. You’re burned out. You’re applying for unemployment again. Anyone not in the industry might think you’re pathetic.  But unemployment benefits are the norm here.

Let’s work together to reignite your spark so that your creativity can burn brightly again.

I get it. Your experience will be validated by someone who understands. This business is unique. If someone hasn’t experienced it personally, they would be hard pressed to comprehend the reality of your everyday life. With me, you can use the lingo commonly used in the business without having to keep explaining yourself. I’ll never make you feel crazy for expressing the constant worries associated with this industry. The human body is not designed for these continual high stress states.

The entertainment industry will always thrive on pressure, but you don’t have to thrive on chaos to succeed. We will identify your goals and personal strengths that have gotten you this far. I will actively listen to you regarding your experience, ask clarifying questions to gain understanding, help you identify patterns, and create effective approaches for overcoming challenges to reaching your goals.

Questions?

Frequently asked questions about therapy for entertainment biz professionals

  • Absolutely! I would be delighted to share burnout prevention and stress management techniques with employees in a corporate wellness program. Please contact me for further information.

  • I am trained in both EMDR levels 1 and 2 and Internal Family Systems, but my main theoretical approach continues to be Person-Centered theory where the client is an expert in their own life and the therapist supports by offering “unconditional positive regard.”  Research tells us that the therapeutic relationship is the most important factor in positive change.  When clients are given unconditional acceptance with a therapist they can trust, they are able to initiate and sustain improvements in their lives.  In addition to using tools from the aforementioned trainings, I also incorporate interventions from mindfulness, CBT, DBT and Solution Focused Therapy.  I am committed to expanding my knowledge to better support my clients.

  • I offer flexible scheduling and can meet via telehealth for your convenience.

Unfortunately, I may not be able to treat you while you are physically outside of the state of California. My ability to do so depends on various factors, such as the laws of the jurisdiction you will be traveling to. If you know you will be traveling outside of the state, please provide me with as much advance notice as possible so I may have enough time to determine whether I will be able to provide treatment to you during that time. If I am unable to treat you while you are outside of California, we can discuss alternative care options and strategies as well as what you should do in the event of an emergency.
